This time - he says on his Facebook, that the Pilot Whale isn't good for the faroese people to eat, because it is filled with mercury.
Not one single word in his Facebook has he said, that his Sea Shepherd ships are NOT allowed in faroese waters ... ever again. For the safety of our local fishermen, (last year one Sea Shepherd vessel almost rammed a local fisherman boat) the faroese government has made a law, that has banned Sea Shepherd ships to come to faroese waters.
The only thing, that Sea Shepherd has made a difference in the Faroe Islands is that now even more young people are interrested in harvesting the Pilot Whale than ever before. It was a tradition, that almost died - but NOW it is alive again and I quess Faroe Islands has to give Sea Shepherd a huge thanks for that one.
As you can read on his Facebook below - Watson has seen in his eyes, that the battle against the faroese people is lost and people from Faroe Islands will continue to harvest the Pilot Whales, as it is a part of our tradition. And as you know, faroese people are a proud bunch and we only harvest about 800 Pilot Whales a year and sometimes much less than that and there is over one million Pilot Whales left in the world.
We don't harvest the Pilot Whale for fun - and it's important to know, that we would'nt harvest the Pilot Whale if the Pilot Whale wasn't sustainable. If you want to know more about the Pilot Whale harvest, go to: www.whaling.fo.
