It is easy to attack a country like Faroe Islands - because our story never gets out. People only jugde what they can see and hear - and if you can't see or if you don't even WANT to hear our story - then it quiet very easy to jugde us. Not knowing the truth - only makes you blind ...
The truth about us - is very different than you read all over the world. The truth about faroese people is that we are a very tolerant & peaceful people. We depend on our fishermen and only 49.000 people live in 18 small islands. We are one with nature and harvesting whale is a part of our culture. It has been for generations and it probably will for generations - that is ofcourse if the Pilot Whales is sustainable and eatable.
You see - the fact is that harvesting whales in Faroe Islands isn't just who we are. We are so much more than that - and in the Faroe Islands - you will find peace and heaven on earth - that you won't find else where. If you look at us as nature-folk - you will also find, that we care for our Pilot Whales and we would'nt just kill these animals just for fun - but we do it, because (again) the Pilot Whales are sustainable, eat-able and a part of faroese culture.
Some people are afraid - when they read stories about us - mostly made by the organisation Sea Shepherd - where they only tell a part of the story about us. They like to write about us killing whales and taking pictures of us - while we do that. See - most people have is very easy to jugde things, when they don't really understand and thus their stories about whale-killing make headlines all over the world. If they wrote that this was a part of our culture and that we harvest the sustainable Pilot Whales - then people would loose interest in their articles and they would'nt donate any more money to them.
Hell - Im not going to jugde you - just because you eat an hamburger. Or jugde you - if you eat some sustainable chicken. And I would be very happy, that you also would understand me - when I ate some sustainable Pilot Whale and btw - we don't eat whalemeat every day and we are aware of mercury in the meat and that's also why - most of us - don't eat it every day. Official records of all pilot whale hunts have been kept since 1584 and thus we are talking some serious info gathering, folk's. And so this is just a reminder til all you haters of Faroe Islands: Wake up - come visit us and see for yourself. We ain't that bad and we would be delighted to see you and maybe you also could eat some of our well-known culture and get to know us in a very different way. Listen to some of viking-music or come to our famous festivals (we have a lot of those).
The only way - that I know to kill hate - is with love and this is the way - we are going to kill the lies & propaganda - told by haters, who don't really want to understand our way of living. And yes - maybe is also fun to just laugh it all away ... because after all ... I really think that Sea Shepherd is a laugh and ½ - dont you ..? And with the Anti Sea Shepherd comic's I will (in the end) will able to show the world a different point of view of our fun-loving & peaceful country - and I wish you all the best, my friend.
